Hello Bulldogs!  It's hard to believe, but we are almost half way through the school year! Time goes so quickly and it is so important to cherish these moments with your children.  The 2013-2014 school is off to an amazing start!  Our school theme is catching on and we have many events planned for this year.
We will have our quarterly awards assemblies at the end of each quarter.  The first quarterly awards assembly went off without a hitch.  Students were recognized with a variety of awards.  These include Perfect Attendance, Merit Roll and Honor Roll.  New this year, teachers are able to nominate students from their homeroom for Most Improved, Math Star, Caught Being Responsible and Caught Being Helpful.  Even the bus drivers got in on the action with their Bus Rider of the Month Award. The students and staff were so excited and we can't wait for our next assembly.
From time to time we will also have Team Shirt Days.  On these days, the entire school from students to teachers to custodians and bus drivers wear their team shirts.  We are encouraging a sense of community in our building.  We are all a part of EPES and we are all important.  Everyone has a SUPERPOWER!  Some of us are Supportive, some are Understanding, some are Polite, some are Ecouraging and some are Responsible.  It is important for us all to model these character traits for our students!  This is essential as our children grow and develop into productive citizens.  Watch for more information on our next Team Shirt Day.
Something New!
Our building is using a new Benchmarking tool called EasyCBM.  The program allows us to see how our kids compare to the rest of the nation in the areas of reading and mathematics.  The students will complete Benchmark assessments three times a year.  Based on their scores, they will receive a rating of Low Risk, Some Risk or High Risk.  We will use this information to provide students with intervention and enrichment during our intervention and enrichment time.  We have just completed our first benchmark assessment and have started to analyze the data.
It has been a GREAT year so far and I look forward to all the fun, educational activities we have planned for the remainder of the year!
