Students should have their headphones in a zip lock bag with their name on it. The Dollar stores have inexpensive head phones that will work.

Ohio Alerts Text Issue Update

EP has been notified that Verizon Wireless has a policy in place that limits the number of mass text messages that can be sent through their network during peak times.

Unfortunately, this means that community members who subscribe to Verzion Wireless will experience a delay in receiving our text alert messages.  We are told the delay could be up to 30 minutes depending on network volume.

It is suggested that Verizon Wireless customers utilize a backup method of receiving our school closing and delay alerts.   School closing and delay notificaitons are available through our All Call system and through the major television networks in Youngstown.  Also, some of the television stations also offer a text alert option that may be valuable as a backup notificaiton method.

Middle School Fall Candle Sale

EPMS Chestnut Hill

Candle Sale

Sale Dates: October 20-27

All orders and money due by October 27, 2014

Chestnut Hill is a family owned business in Chester, WVA. They make their own candles using a unique soy wax blend of soy and cottonseed. They have been doing school fund raisers for several years. For each candle sold at $10, the school makes a 40% profit. All of the money raised is used to fund field trips and activities for EPMS students.

These candles make very nice Christmas and Holiday gifts and are great to have around the house all year long. There are samples of the scents available in the middle school office.

We ask that the students do not sell to people they do not know. Ask family members, friends of the family and coworkers of parents.

Samples are available in the middle school office  daily from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM.

Make checks payable to: EPMS.

All monies raised are used for EPMS activities, PBIS incentives and field trips.

Energy Efficiency to Benefit Academics

On April 7 the East Palestine Board of Education approved a proposal from Energy Optimizers, USA (http://energyoptusa.com/ ) to embark on an energy efficiency program.  This program will fit the exterior of the district with new LED lighting, update the buildings to high efficiency boilers, and retrofit all existing interior lighting fixtures.  These upgrades will be completed using a HB264 project that does not require the use of any taxpayer funds.

HB264 programs allow districts to obtain a loan to complete energy efficient improvements, then use the energy savings to pay back the loan.  Thus, no additional burden to taxpayers.  The EP project will cost $541,840, with an anticipated yearly energy savings of  $56,549.  Of this yearly savings, $45,545 will be used as the annual loan payment.  The remaining annual energy savings of $11,004 is additional revenue for the district.

Over the 15 year term of this program,  EP Schools will realize a minimum of $165,060 in additional revenue at no additional cost to our community.

Through the energy savings of this program, EP Schools will use 90% of the $11,004 of annual energy savings to support increased student achievement in the areas of reading and math.  The additional 10% of energy savings will be applied as an additional payment to reduce the term of the HB264 loan.
